Silent night? Not this year!

The Blue Lake Carols will be back in full-swing this year after two years of COVID-19 interruptions.

The community will come together at the Mount Gambier Rail Lands on Sunday to sing along to Christmas carols and share Christmas joy.

The much-loved community event is free to attend and Blue Lake Carols MC Ben Hood said he was excited the carols would return to a live performance this year.

“We are really excited to be able to go back to the format that everyone loves which is in the rail lands and have a live event this time after two years of being live-streamed,” he said.

“Coming off the back of the carols being the Community Event of the Year at the Australia Day Awards last year, the team are really looking forward to putting on a really fantastic show for people to be a part of and to sing and join in.

“This year is the 75th anniversary of the first carols that was ever held as well, so it is a really tremendous opportunity for people to be a part of history and the 75th anniversary.”

A great line-up of local artists will hit the stage to sing a variety of Christmas music, from classic carols and crowd favourites to kids medlies and contemporary music.

“I know they are just so excited to put on a wonderful event for the community and to just really embrace that Christmas spirit and that great message of hope and togetherness that comes with Christmas,” Mr Hood said.

Mr Hood said people were getting excited for the event and encouraged everyone to come along to be a part of the community feeling and spirit.

“We have all gone through the wringer a bit over the last couple of years, there have been lots of reasons why we have not been able to do these events, COVID obviously being the top one,” he said.

“And now it’s a really great opportunity for people to get back out and reconnect with their community and just share in what will be a really fantastic event.”

Mr Hood said the Blue Lake Carols was run by volunteers and many people put in a tremendous amount of work to bring the event to fruition.

“It is a huge team effort and our volunteers do it because they love their city and they love their community and they just want to spread that message of joy and hope at Christmas time and to let the community share in that and have a great time as well,” he said.

The Blue Lake Carols will begin at 7.30pm and attendees can bring snacks, chairs and blankets to the event.
