Young Limestone Coast racer Dallas Skeer returns to his childhood circuit chasing the 2020 Master of Mac Park title after a long stint off the bike this weekend.
Like almost everything, COVID-19 has thrown Skeer’s plans out the window in a year where he looked to continue his rise up the Australian Superbike pecking order.
The 18-year-old hoped 2020 could be another promising season in the ASBK Championship Supersport class, but the series was put on hold seven months ago and he has not raced since.
After such a long wait between race weekends, Skeer said he could not wait to jump back on his Suzuki GSXR 600cc machine at Mac Park.
“It is great to be back racing,” he said.
“I haven’t raced since February and that was a national championship.
“We have been doing a few practice days at Mac Park and I have probably jumped on the bike about three or four times since February.
“So it will just be fun to ride with the adrenaline rush again.”
After a troubled preparation, Skeer is taking a relaxed approach this weekend.
He said he will soak up the Master of Mac Park’s atmosphere as uncertainty surrounds his future schedule.
“It is probably the only racing I will do this year because it is one of the few road events left,” Skeer said.
“We are really hoping next year starts up again because I was riding the best I ever had in the championship (before COVID) which was a bit disappointing, but everyone was in the same boat.
“There will be plenty of riders this weekend because they all want to get on the track, so it will be good to compete against some national and local riders.”
