Crowds flocked to McCorquindale Park on the weekend for the annual Penola Show, which has been hailed an “outstanding success” by organisers.
Show president Jake Rowe said this year’s numbers through the gate were on a par with last year and those who attended enjoyed every minute of the entertainment and displays.
“The new concept of ‘the hub’ received huge positive feedback from patrons,” he said.
“This year the board decided to revive the outside layout of the show and had all the eating area, food vans and entertainment in a compact area, where everyone could sit and eat and watch the entertainment in one area.”
Mr Rowe said perfect weather conditions prevailed for a magnificent fireworks display on Friday evening, however the strong winds on Saturday made it slightly difficult for aerobatic stuntman Chris Sperou.
However, it did not deter spectators from watching his spectacular aerial display.
The indoor hall was again full of colour with a new section in the floral arrangements entitled ‘Never give in, Never give up’, which was instigated by board member Chandalin Crouch.
The category attracted 10 entries with funds raised donated to charity.
This year it was the secretary’s Kathy Fennell’s choice of charity and she selected the Cancer Foundation.
Each year a different charity will be chosen and in 2024 it will be the Motor Neurone Disease charity.
The art section this year was of exceptional quality along with the flowers, fruit and vegetable, cookery and craft.
The school displays attracted a lot of attention as did the children’s competitions, photography, art and wool in the stadium.
The cattle section attracted good entries and the quality was first class with the competition being very competitive.
The horse classes also had good entries with some excellent competition.
Mr Rowe said it was an excellent show with plans for the 2024 to be started very soon.
