Glenelg Shire Council has listened to community feedback during the past week and decided to scrap planned changes to its Christmas and New Year celebrations.
As a result, the festive season activities organised by council will be similar to last year.
This will include council organising lighting of the Norfolk Island pine Christmas Tree on Bentinck St and also closing part of Bentinck St to traffic on New Year’s Eve to permit alcohol consumption there.
Glenelg Shire Mayor Scott Martin said council had listened to residents.
“We have heard the feedback from the Community Satisfaction Survey which says we need to listen to our community better, and this shows we’re doing that,” Mayor Martin said.
“We hear you, and we have listened.”
More details of what this year’s festivities will look like will be released in coming weeks.
Cr Martin said council consistently reviewed costings throughout its operations, which included Christmas and New Year’s events.
Any future changes would be put out for community consultation before any decisions were made.
