Social record bowled over

In a 15 year first the Mount Gambier Bowls Club celebrated a record amount of players at their weekly social game.

On Tuesday, July 5 a huge total of 42 players from the Mount Gambier RSL and Port MacDonnell, Dartmoor and Robe Bowls Clubs joined the Mount Gambier Bowls Club members in a big event.

Social bowls takes place every Tuesday with rotating sponsors each month.

Mount Gambier Bowls Club director Athol Malseed said he believes the high numbers are due the cold weather as they are the only bowling club in the district with an undercover shed.

“In the last few weeks leading up to this record, there were 32 players,” he said.

“None of the other clubs can bowl at their grounds because it is too cold and wet outside.

“We hope to see continue seeing encouraging participation in the future.”
