Soldiers remembered

Members of a family linked to the fatal explosion of a German sea mine at Beachport in 1941 have visited the town.

This mine killed two young Royal Australian Navy sailors, Able Seaman Thomas Todd and Able Seaman William Danswan.

Danswan family members from Australia and the UK have called to pay their respects and to view a display dedicated to the tragedy at the town’s museum.

Meanwhile, Alan Wallis from Greenways, has recently donated some sea mine items to the Beachport National Trust Museum.

His late grandmother, Mrs Eva Noble of Beachport, collected some shrapnel after the event and the bits have been kept in a tin ever since.
