Southend community stalwart’s life celebrated

Members of the local community will have heavy hearts when they attend the funeral tomorrow of dedicated Southend community volunteer Joan Lucas.

Her life will be celebrated at a service commencing at 2pm at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.

It was at this very venue a month ago when she was named as the 2022 Wattle Range Council Senior of the Year.

Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll had detailed the extensive contribution of the recipient to such organisations as the Millicent Lioness Club, Beachport Pony Club, Millicent Probus Club, Endurance Riding and the Lions Club of Wattle Range Lioness.

“Joan brings people together and is always helping out,” Mayor Noll had said.

“During her time working at Millicent High School, she did much for the students and the school community.”

Ms Lucas died on November 13 at the age of 81.

Pre-deceased by her husband Robert in 2019, Ms Lucas is survived by their five children and 10 grandchildren.
