Southern Ports Tennis Association juniors shine in the sun

Saturday was a beautiful day for Southern Ports junior tennis.

Millicent hosted top ranked Kingston and the battle was always going to be a challenge.

Some great matches were played with many games going to deuce.

The final score was Kingston 41 games to Millicent 20.

While in Naracoorte the Red team took on the Naracoorte/Padthaway Blue side.

The top doubles was a great match which went Padthaway’s way with in the tie-break 7-5.

The bottom double was also a great match. Well done to Georgie Midwinter and Sid Hawker who won 6-3 over Elsie Orton and Gus Brooksby.

Naracoorte Red got the win 40 games to 29.

Over in Lucindale there were two matches played with the Roos taking on Naracoorte Padthaway Yellow and Koalas challenging the very strong Naracoorte White outfit.

With both number 1s out for Roos and Yellow it was an even line-up which went down to the wire.

Roos got over the line 36 games to 33.

There was some great tennis with some scores not always reflecting the number of points played.

Bailey and Darcy Clarke were the only ones to win a set for the Koalas, the Koalas went down 48 games to 25, a convincing win for the strong White team.

Next week is the last round before the Christmas break and Naracoorte Red will have a challenge when they host Kingston, but it will be a good test for all players.

There will also be an interesting match up for the Roos and Naracoorte/Padthaway Blue at Lucindale who will both be looking to get a game ahead of one another.

It is a massive weekend for junior tennis with the 2022 South East Tennis Association Junior Singles Championship being played at Lucindale on Sunday.
