Speeding driver fined

A Beachport man has been fined after he was detected driving at 128kph in a 80kph zone last week at Beachport.

At about 7pm on April 14, police patrolling Millicent Road detected a Nissan 4WD travelling at 128kph in the 80kph zone. The vehicle was stopped and the 49-year-old driver was issued an on the spot fine totalling $1790 which also attracted nine demerit points.

The man was also issued with an instant six month loss of licence. Meanwhile, a man will face court after being arrested in Naracoorte last week in relation to a recent crime spree.

Between 6pm on April 13 and 6.30am on April 14 a silver Toyota Prius was stolen during a break-in at a Kings Park home. About 8.15am on April 14 police received reports of the stolen Prius being involved in a petrol theft at Willalooka.

It was also reported driving dangerously on the Riddoch Highway, almost colliding with a truck. A Naracoorte Highway Patrol spotted the car stopped on the side of the Riddoch Highway however the car sped off as police approached and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The pursuit was quickly terminated due to safety reasons and the car was last seen heading south towards Naracoorte. A Lucindale patrol saw the stolen car again on Deviation Road at Naracoorte where they were able to successfully spike both passenger side tyres.

The driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot into the yard of a nearby home. Police set cordons around the area and arrested the alleged driver after jumping fences of homes in Gordon Street.

A search of the stolen car uncovered other property believed to be stolen from a car at Clarence Park earlier last week. A 27-year-old man from New South Wales was charged with a number of offences including aggravated serious criminal trespass, two counts of theft, driving dangerously to avoid police pursuit and other traffic offences.
