South Australian Liberal Party Leader David Speirs next week will make his fourth visit to Mount Gambier in the last nine months.
Mr Speirs said since becoming leader he had made regional engagement a key priority.
Mr Speirs will bring his parliamentary team along on the visit, which will include a community session as well as meetings with businesses and local organisations.
“When we visit regional South Australia I want our engagement to be meaningful which is why we will be spending three days in and around Mount Gambier,” he said.
“We will be hosting a community meet and greet as well visiting local businesses, organisations and residents.
“This way we can hear directly from your community on what matters to you.
“This approach is in direct contrast to Labor’s city-centric way of governing where they treat regional South Australia like a FIFO destination – fly in for the day, take a photo for social media and then fly out.
“It’s this approach that led to the embarrassing result in Peter Malinauskas’ recent plebiscite into the local government amalgamation of Grant District Council and the City of Mount Gambier.
“By disrespecting the South East communities and not doing proper consultation, the Malinauskas Labor Government’s proposal was always set up for failure.”
Mr Speirs said he was determined to “turn up, listen and act” for regional SA.
“I have personally visited more than 60 regional towns since becoming the leader of the State Liberal Party and I will keep coming back,” he said.
“I am very excited to be able to bring my entire team with me to Mount Gambier this time.
“Please register your interest and join us at our community meet and greet at 7pm on January 30 at the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre.”
