Former Beachport District Council chairman Doug Chilton has recently passed away. His private funeral was held at the Rendelsham Cemetery.

The life-long farmer was at the helm of the local council in the 1980s. Mr Chilton was a keen sportsman and played bowls in his later years.

His death means there are only two living ex-chairmen of Beachport Council in Mitch Williams and Gwenda Lawlor.

Beachport combined with the Penola and Millicent councils in 1997 to form Wattle Range Council.
