Star shines for appeal

Country music sensation Kasey Chambers took the ‘Runaway Train’ home to the South East for a special concert raising funds for family friend and local Zac Watson.

Mr Watson became a paraplegic in April following a motorbike accident that occurred in Alice Springs while he was training for the Finke Desert Race.

A concert and proceeds from a silent raffle conducted by the Globe Hotel in recent months raised money for Mr Watson.

The concert was opened by Limestone Coast band Fox Array and had been relocated from the Globe Hotel to a marquee in the Jens Hotel outdoor area to accommodate the around 600 attendees.

Jens and Globe Hotel manager Aaron Davies said the performance was enjoyed by all who attended.

“It was not that cold, it rained a few times which filled it (the marquee) up but once the first band played for a bit and then obviously the next ones came firing through and they were amazing when they got on there,” he said.

“I think people obviously came to see Kasey and that as well and it just made for a really good crowd.

“I have obviously had a connection with Dylan for a long time who is Zac’s dad and I knew Zac from the football club over at East.

“I think it was just good for Zac to get out and see a lot of his friends and have a couple of drinks and just chill out.

“He got up on stage and spoke really well and it was a good night.”

An unaffiliated GoFundMe page for Mr Watson has reached over $60,000 of its $200,000 goal to assist him with housing, equipment, medical expenses and other support systems to help him throughout his life.
