Engines will be roaring once again at Glenburnie Raceway as the Mount Gambier Karting Club races into its new 2022 season on Saturday afternoon.
Another big year of go-kart racing is in store with the upcoming club day kicking of the new season in a big way.
There will be a sense of occasion when the lights out as racing will go into the twilight hours of Saturday night.
Usually racing begins in the morning before wrapping after lunch, but this time wheels will not start spinning until 3pm.
Mount Gambier Karting Club president Jason Fewins said he hopes it will create a lively atmosphere.
“We are starting off with a twilight meeting starting around 3pm,” he said.
“We tend to do one around the start of each year to make the most of daylight savings and it means we can put on a barbecue at the club and make a bit of a night of it, so we are looking forward to it.”
There is also plenty to watch for on the track with new drivers joining up for the new season and track repairs completed to make the surface better than ever.
“We have been able to get some work done around the track which has helped a lot,” he said.
“We had some extra concreting done to do some repairs on certain sections where the track was starting to deteriorate with a bit of couch grass.
“So we had some edges of the track where we had to cut away and box it up with fresh concrete to stop it from deteriorating further.
“A handful of new members joined up over the break so it will be great to see some new faces, while some kids have moved up to senior and other classes so there is a good buzz around the club at the moment.”
A vintage meeting is also coming in fast for the club with karts from the pre-1990 era set to hit the track on the weekend of February 18, 19 and 20.
