After a no-show last year, the prestigious Mount Gambier Gift Carnival returns to Vansittart Park next month.
Many of South Australia’s most talented runners will compete over distances ranging from 70 metres to 1600 metres to produce show-stopping action for all in attendance.
In the tradition of the famous Stawell Gift and Bay Sheffield, the footraces will be handicapped and provide an entertaining spectacle on the afternoon of Saturday, November 27.
Top class race caller Terry McAuliffe will be on hand to provide a description of all races during the afternoon.
South Australian Athletic League President Colin Rowston said the event promised to be a highlight of the league’s season.
“Over the years, the Mount Gambier Gift Carnival has been very popular with runners and coaches,” he said.
“They see the event as the main lead up to the Bay Sheffield Carnival which is held at Glenelg on December 27 and 28.
“After the disappointment of COVID-19 causing the event’s cancellation last year, we are extremely excited to be returning to Mount Gambier again in 2021.
“ Local Mount Gambier athletes will also line up in the main races, as well as in races put on for themselves. Hayden Crowe, who ran a sensational second placing in the 2021 Stawell 200 metre final earlier this year, will be one to watch.
Event Manager Natasha Little is keen to hear from businesses in Mountt Gambier who would like to sponsor a race on the day or to discuss any other sponsorship opportunity and can be contacted on 0424 722 362 for more information.
