Station to stay locked

The Kalangadoo Police Station is set to remain unstaffed for the foreseeable future according to Police Minister Vince Tarzia.

There has not been a resident police officer stationed there for around five years with officers from neighbouring towns undertaking patrols of.

Mr Tarzia recently told the House of Assembly the fate of the Kalangadoo police station would be known after a long-running internal regional police review had been completed.

The minister said police had been involved in other operational matters including the COVID response.

Shadow Minister for Police Lee Odenwalder had directed a number of questions to Mr Tarzia and was unimpressed with his response.

“With Parliament now shut down until May, the divided Marshall Liberal Government has failed to honour its election commitment to reopen Kalangadoo Police Station,” Mr Odenwalder said.

“The fact is, the Liberals made promises to the people of Kalangadoo (in 2018) they simply could not keep.

“The Liberals were very quick to extend police station hours in Henley Beach, Glenelg and in Premier Steven Marshall’ own seat of Norwood, but have completely ignored Kalangadoo.

“Why should voters in regional areas believe that any of the Liberals’ promises to them will be fulfilled?”
