Students have a ball

More than 170 Tenison Woods College Year 11 and 12 students danced the night away at City Hall on Friday night for their annual Charity Ball, raising funds for communities in Timor-Leste.

Tenison Woods College students did their part by paying $50 for a ticket and while the total funds raised are still being tallied, the student-led auction and student donations raised a further $650 of much-needed funds.

The funds will be used for infrastructure, educational programs, and daily operation costs to those in need in Timor-Leste.

It is with great excitement there are two immersions taking place this year, one in July and one in September.

These immersions give students the opportunity to assist communities and make a difference abroad.

All money raised will be distributed to the communities the college will visit such as the Bakhita Centre, the Dominican Orphanage and their sister school in Hatolia, San Francisco Xavier College.

This year students are also looking forward to a tour of Klibur Domin, a charitable home operated by the Ryder Cheshire foundation, which has strong links to Mount Gambier.

Immersion coordinator Bernadette Fisher said the students and staff were excited to be able to visit Timor-Leste again.

“The team have been working hard to raise money to gift to the communities we will visit, including the barbecue at Sports Day, volunteering their time to usher at the recent Generations In Jazz event, and look forward to planning stalls and events for the upcoming Charity Day,” she said.
