Students prepare for exams

Limestone Coast Year 12 students will be among thousands statewide to sit their South Australian Certificate of Education exams from Monday.

Students will not be required to wear masks during exams following the announcement face masks are no longer mandatory in South Australian schools.

Mount Gambier High Senior School Assistant Principal Samantha Brown said SA schools had escaped many of the disruptions seen in other states during COVID-19.

“Students in South Australia have been extremely lucky in terms of other states in being able to continue their schooling mostly as per normal,” she said.

Ms Brown said this year there would be an increase in electronic exams as the SACE board moves toward the online platform.

“I would suggest that almost all the exams will eventually be online, even the maths exams,” she said.

“We have taken all the steps necessary to ensure the online exams are the best they can be.”

In 2020, the concerns of electronic exams were highlighted as nearly 3000 Year 12 South Australian students could not sit their psychology exams due to a “technical issue”.

“Obviously we had the delay last year with the psychology exam but everybody was in the same boat so you can only be as prepared as possible,” Ms Brown said.

“We just need to follow the process and do the best we can at the time.”

Exams have endured another modification with the time frame changing from three hours previously to now two hours.

Ms Brown wished all students across the region the best for their exams.

“Congratulations on finishing and successfully getting through your Year 12 studies because it is the culmination of 13 years of hard work,” she said.

“You have nearly made it to the end which is a fantastic achievement and good luck with this last milestone.”
