The University of South Australia (UniSA) Mount Gambier Campus held an open day for prospective students on Sunday.
Those interested could visit the campus from 10am-3pm and talk to one of the many UniSA staff present about the courses available in Mount Gambier and Adelaide.
UniSA Mount Gambier Campus regional manager Ian McKay said visitation remained steady during the day.
“People have certainly engaged with our staff that are here today and that is terrific,” he said.
“It allows people to better understand the course they are interested in and decide whether that’s a good fit for them.
“During the day we have sessions in each of the degrees and the other programs that we offer here in Mount Gambier but we also have information available for degrees that are offered by UniSA in Adelaide.
“Obviously there are many degrees that we cannot offer in Mount Gambier, but people are able to come to our open day and find out more about those degrees without having to go to Adelaide to find out.
“We are happy to show people through the campus and certainly that has been well received.”
Mr McKay said there was a look into the future on the day, with information available about Adelaide University which will be a combination of the University of Adelaide and UniSA.
“There was a session this morning on the new Adelaide University which will open in 2026 and there has been the first sighting in Mount Gambier of the new Adelaide University logo,” he said.
“There was some other merchandise and bits and pieces that were on show today, with the Adelaide University logo and an information booklet that people can take away with them and a learn a little bit more about this exciting new development.
“I think that’s one of the real advantages of an open day, you can access most of the information available online but you cannot talk to a local academic or a program director that has come from Adelaide.
“We have got a number of Adelaide based staff that have joined us today and you cannot replicate that online and be able to ask the questions that are important to you.
Mr McKay encourages those unable to attend the open day to visit the campus at any time in the coming weeks or months to have a talk to someone about degrees or programs you may be interested in.
“Our open day is a great opportunity but it is not the only opportunity to learn about the options that are available for studying at university,” he said.
