Super special birthday treat for Mount Gambier identity

Is it a bird? No! Is it a plane? No! It’s Mount Gambier’s very own superman Wil Stroja.

Mr Stroja has taken to spreading smiles around the Limestone Coast with his hero persona ‘Super Wil with one L.’

Anyone living in Mount Gambier is likely to have seen Mr Stroja wearing a cape, an accessory he has been donning since he was about six years old.

Mr Stroja’s infectious personality is reverberating throughout the community, with a local youngster recently greeting him in a Mount Gambier business as “Superman”.

Mr Stroja said he was happy to find out everyone loved him for who he was.

“I am never ashamed or embarrassed to wear a cape and I like to make the world smile,” he said.

“It’s who I am.

“I have worn capes my whole life and I do not plan on stopping.”

Mr Stroja is a regular at Metro Bakery and Café and was surprised the first-time staff and his friends dressed up with him.

“I felt privileged all my friends would wear capes with me,” he said.

“I always wear a cape but that’s a risk I am willing to take because at the end of the day everyone has got their opinions in life, and it makes me happy.

Mr Stroja is working with Community Living Project’s Microenterprises to create and copyright his own costume and publish books with the editing help of Metro owner and founder Toni Vorenas, who has offered in her capacity as a former educator and volunteer.

“Writing has always been something I enjoyed.

“I like to spread positive messages to the community,” he said.

“My favourite word is ability.

“We all have ability, no one really has a disability because I like to think of the world as all having different abilities.

“I want to be a pacifist who brings love and peace to the world.

“We should all put aside our differences because we are all human no matter what god we follow.

“What is the world coming to if we lose our humanity?”
