Another major step towards the re-opening of the Millicent swimming lake occurred yesterday (Wednesday) when contractors InRoads completed the final seal of the lake floor.
Wattle Range Council program manager Craig Turner said a few more tasks were needed to be done.
“Once the rubberised compound has cured, council staff can paint the walls and swimming lanes,” Mr Turner said.
“Filling and water treatment will then commence and can take up to two weeks to complete.
“At this stage we are on track for an opening date towards the end of November.”
The lake usually reopens on November 1 but the timing of the bitumen re-seal was dependent on fine weather.
Council earmarked around $130,000 in its 2024/25 budget for the bitumen resealing in a bid to reduce water leakage.
It is expected to suffice for a few years and be followed by a major, multi-million-dollar concrete re-build with a lifespan of half a century.
