Teachers at Limestone Coast Schools are expected to take part in strike action on Friday, following a vote by the Australian Education Union SA branch to take industrial action.
The union announced on Friday that members had voted to strike in a bid to put pressure on the State Government to improve teachers’ pay and conditions.
The statewide ballot saw 80% of members vote in favour of industrial action.
“After nine months of negotiations, the Premier is standing in the way of better educational outcomes for South Australian students,” AEU President Andrew Gohl said.
“Teachers, leaders and support staff are doing their best to paper over the cracks and keep the system running, but this treatment cannot go on.
“The result of this ballot shows we are not willing to accept an offer which would see the current crisis in public education continue.”
Mr Gohl said thousands of public educators would be “taking action to secure a deal that provides real workload relief and long-overdue support for students”.
Parents, students and members of the community are invited to stand together with teachers at 11am on the Parliament House steps on Friday.
