Over the past week I have flipped through the pages of the media industry by completing work experience at The SE Voice in Mount Gambier.
I approached the newspaper because I have an interest in media and hope to obtain a future career in news reading or journalism.
The last week has been a blast where I have been introduced to all areas of the newspaper from chasing stories to designing the final product.
My journey started with a big weekend when I met Sports Editor Thomas Miles to learn how to photograph some of the top sporting events in the region.
We covered soccer, basketball, football and netball games where I developed skills such as camera settings, positioning, lighting and how to construct a match report.
It was cool to be amongst the action with the electric atmosphere of the basketball being a highlight.
On Thursday I transitioned from behind the camera to the office and took part in the weekly staff meeting.
Here I was introduced to the entire team where I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the faces behind the paper and what it takes to produce the publication from start to finish.
I was taken under the wing of young journalist Brandi Miller, who introduced me to the world of compiling a diverse range of news stories based on interviews and first hand experiences.
It was enlightening to learn so much from a local, enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable team.
When watching the news or reading articles I have wanted to develop an insight into how they do it and now with a glimpse behind the scenes, I have a greater ambition to chase my dreams.
