The incoming members of the newly-created Millicent Saleyards Advisory Committee are set to hold office for only three months.

Council staff have recommended the appointment of nine members to the committee with their report forming part of the agenda at the August monthly meeting in Millicent this afternoon.

The committee will have to be reappointed after the new 2022-26 council is elected to office on November 11.

Following a call for nominations, staff are seeking the endorsement of Mayor Des Noll (ex-officio), councillors Deb Agnew and Dr Kevin McGrath (elected members), Scott Altschwager, John Chay, Anthony Driessen and Owen Merrett (stock agents), yarding contractor Neville Copping and Millicent Business Community Association chairman Lee Morgan.

There were no nominations received for representatives from the cattle production or trucking sectors.

The draft terms of reference are also set to be endorsed.

An informal saleyards advisory committee has existed since 2019.

Council had a saleyards management board several years ago but it went into recess.
