The Bell Studio of Highland Dance students put their dancing shoes on and held their inaugural concert ‘A Highland Day Out’ at the City Band Hall.

The concert received a full house attendance and students performed a variety of items, including choreographed dances and traditional Highland dancing.

The Bell Studio dancers were joined by guest artists from the Mount Gambier Blue Lake Highland Pipe Band, Envy Dance Studio and Torquil Studio of Highland Dance in Adelaide.

The concert was followed by an afternoon tea and awards, which were presented by the Mount Gambier Caledonian Society Chieftain Margaret Winterfield.

Kasi Gilbertson received the Bell Studio Respect Award and Isabelle Bidese received the Bell Studio Endeavour Award.

Bell Studio of Highland Dance Principal teacher Katie Edwards said it was an enjoyable day and students relished the opportunity to perform.

“The dancers worked really hard preparing for the concert and I was so proud of their efforts,” she said.

Ms Edwards founded The Bell Studio of Highland Dance in late 2019 and said many of the dancers were beginners who only started dancing this year.

“For most of our beginner dancers this was their first time performing and they were so excited,” she said.

“Also, our more experienced dancers have had very few competition opportunities due to COVID, so it was really special for all of the kids to be able to get up on stage and perform in front of their friends and families.”
