Thoughts and prayers with besieged Ukraine

Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin has accepted an invitation to address an interfaith rally for Saturday for peace in Ukraine.

It will be held at 3.30pm in the grounds of Christ Church Anglican Church on Bay Road, Mount Gambier.

Mayor Martin spoke at a similar rally at this venue in 2021 when the focus of the 70 in attendance was on the COVID pandemic.

Rally organiser and Anglican parish priest Father Neil Fernando said the rally was an opportunity for the multi-cultural community of the region to come together.

As well as members of the city’s various Christian churches, Father Neil expects Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs to be present.

“Come and pray and light a candle for the flood victims in Australia and for the people of Ukraine and Russia,” Father Neil said.

“Donations are welcome for the flood victims.”
