Thundering hooves return to Mount Gambier

Hasta La Fiorente can take the first step towards a second Skybeau Series Final at Morphettville next month when racing returns to Mount Gambier tomorrow.

Trainer Sue Murphy boasts an imposing record in the Skybeau Series winning the 2019 feature with classy stayer Hasta La War before Hasta La Fiorente won the 2020 edition.

Murphy went without a runner last year with Hasta La Fiorente set to reunite with Dom Tourneur on Wednesday.

Tourneur only recently returned to race riding and has a more than handy record abord the seven-year-old son of 2013 Melbourne winner Firorente.

In seven starts in combination the pair have missed the place just once, that coming in the 2020 Southern Speed Series Final at Morphettville when they finished fourth over the 2000 metre trip.

Local horseman Wayne Walters saddles up Fast Foils and Darken Up in the small field of six.

Walters will also have a strong hand with three runners in the Happy Trails Series Heat.

Daughter Kate Walters rides Fast ‘N’ Forward, Jason Benbow picks up the ride on Ali Orphan who has won his past two and only been out of the money in two of 10 starts on track, while Zabextra resumes in the race with Jessica Eaton to ride.

Meanwhile, there will be speed to burn in the Riziz Series heat over the 900 metre short course.

Last-start winner Glenferrie Girl, trained by Adam Chambers at Warrnambool, comes off a soft first-up win at Naracoorte and will have to carry 61.5kg to victory.
