East Gambier v North Gambier

East Gambier hosted North Gambier in what was a danger game for the visitors, with the Tigers requiring a win and the Doggies having found some form in recent weeks.

North Gambier got off to a strong start, kicking three goals, while East Gambier remained not far behind, kicking two of its own for the quarter to trail by six points at the first break.

East Gambier then kicked it up a notch with an impressive quarter of football to take the fight up to the Tigers, kicking seven goals for the term and restricting the visitors to just the three.

As the second half commenced North Gambier fought back hard, but East Gambier did enough to remain in front at the final break.

Heading into the fourth term, the score was 60-72 in favour of East Gambier, setting up a blockbuster final term that would be do or die for North Gambier.

In the last quarter, North Gambier showcased why the side deserves to play finals, showing resilience and getting the lead back after East Gambier had given them a scare.

The Tigers finished with a strong fourth-quarter performance, kicking six goals while restricting East Gambier to a single point to finish 27 point winners, with the final score of 100 to East Gambier’s 73.

East Gambier’s Carl Slape, Angus Clarke, Sam Lock, Mark Rumbelow, Keenan Dwyer and Shaun Lock were all named amongst the best players for the side despite a disappointing loss.

For North Gambier, Dale Bachmann, Sam Stafford, Cameron Ortlepp, Nick McInerney, Sam Zeitz and Toby de Wit were the standout performers who played crucial roles in their team’s comeback victory.

North Gambier has locked in its spot in third place while East Gambier will take the 2023 wooden spoon despite a late season resurgence.
