Tigers v Demons

The Tigers have won their first game of the season with a massive victory over the Demons in round two of the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League Under 16 season.

After a disappointing loss to Hatherleigh in round one the Tigers responded with an excellent performance against the Demons.

The match started off in the worst possible way for the Demons with the Tigers steam rolling the side in the first quarter.

The Tigers kicked seven goals in the first quarter to the Demons’ zero in a mammoth opening term.

South Gambier remained scoreless in the second term with the Tigers once again piling on the goals.

At the main break North Gambier led by 72 points, with the Demons still yet to score.

The Demons’ defence put up a better fight in the third quarter keeping the Tigers to just two goals, however it struggled to take the ball forward and challenge them in attack.

North had put the game to bed by the time the final quarter came around, leading 91 to 0.

The Demons came out fighting in the final term hoping to impact the scoreboard, but the Tigers’ defence remained too strong and kept them out.

South again fared better than its first half results in the final quarter keeping the Tigers to two goals in the final term.

The star of the game was Tiger Claire Mitchell who put on a remarkable performance, booting six goals for the match.

Eadie Mustart and Sailor McCracken also contributed with two goals each.

Best players for the Tigers were Penny Coleman, Claire Mitchell, Yenna Joyce, Mckayla Maney, Sailor McCracken and Tilly Olsen.

The standouts in defeat for the Demons were Marnie Mueller, Emily Walker and Tahlia Geraghty.

The Demons now have suffered two big defeats, while the Tigers have joined the winners’ list after a disappointing opening match.

Next week will see the Demons take on an undefeated Hatherleigh in a big test for the side.

The Tigers take their win into the bye and return with fresh legs in round four to take on the Hawks.

Hatherleigh v Hawks

Hatherleigh handed the Hawks a massive loss in the visitors’ first match of the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League under 16 season.

The Hawks had the home ground advantage after having the bye in the first round of the competition.

Hatherleigh was coming off a big win against the Tigers in round one and sent a message to the rest of the competition with its second massive win in a row.

The Eagles started the match off flying with five first quarter goals to the Hawks’ none.

The Hawks attempted to tighten the defence in the second quarter, however Hatherleigh proved too good and kicked another four goals before the main break.

The Hawks were in trouble at half time trailing by 59 points and had been kept scoreless by the Hatherleigh defence.

The third quarter featured more of the same from Hatherleigh, continuing to pile on the goals.

The Hawks’ attack still searched for its first score but Hatherleigh’s defence proved too strong.

The Eagles booted three more majors for the quarter to extend the lead to 77 points at the final break.

The final term was a mere formality with Hatherleigh swooping in to claim the four points.

Once again the Hawks remained scoreless finishing the match without a single point, while Hatherleigh continued to find options in its forward line kicking three more goals to finish the match with a 99 point win.

Mackenzie Burke, Kalli Nettle, Jeda Hibberd, Emily Denton and Eva Crowe were all named in the best on ground for Hatherleigh after fantastic performances, while the standouts for the Hawks on a tough day were Ava Hosking, Abby Brant, Evie Edwards, Imogen McLeod and Lacey Hannaford.

Mackenzie Burke and Deni Brown were the major goal scorers for Hatherleigh with Burke booting four goals and Brown kicking three.

Hatherleigh now sits clear on top of the ladder after two terrific performances in the first two rounds and will face a winless Demons side in round three.

The Hawks will hope they can get their season under way when they take on Kyby Tigers.
