Timber export probe

The all-party South Australian parliamentary select committee which is inquiring into the exporting of wood fibre and other Limestone Coast timber matters completed three days of hearings yesterday.

The Legislative Council sub-committee started its deliberations on Monday and also made a number of site visits.

Among the Mount Gambier plants inspected were Roundwood Solutions, NF McDonnell and Sons and Whitehead Timbers.

Oral evidence was presented by key stakeholders on such issues such as water, timber supply, labour shortages and future technology.

Present were Liberal Upper House Opposition Leader Dr Nicola Centofanti, Mount Gambier Liberal frontbencher MLC Ben Hood, Labor MLC Ted Ngo and cross-bencher Frank Pangallo, from SA Best.

The committee is set to report to the Legislative Council in November.
