Timber talk of town

Timber was the talk of the town last week, when the Parliamentary Friends of Forestry held a networking event in Adelaide.

South Australian Forest Products Association chief executive Nathan Paine said the evening was a great success for South Australia’s forestry and timber sectors.

Mr Paine said shining a light and raising the importance of South Australia’s forest industries amongst Members of Parliament from all political persuasions was an essential initiative for the South Australian Forest Products Association (SAFPA).

“Over the last 12 months, our industry has garnered significant recognition by the state and Australian Governments, and the Parliamentary Friends of Forestry event was a clear example of just how well-supported the forestry sector is by our Parliamentarians,” he said.

“This event secured the attention of Ministers, Shadow Ministers, Members of Parliament and their staff, and allowed forestry business leaders to share their stories and connect with the decision and policy makers of our state.

“Despite the significant government investment in forestry over the last 12 months, there are still barriers and challenges within our industry that need to be addressed.

“Voicing our needs and requirements directly to our state representatives is paramount for our industry, and adjoining industries, to thrive and build regional communities.

“SAFPA and South Australia’s forest industries would like to thank co-convenors, the Honourable Reggie Martin, MLC and the Honourable Nicola Centofanti, MLC, for hosting this important event in the Old Chamber at Parliament House in Adelaide.

“Having their support, along with the Minister for Forestry Industries, has been core in our advocacy for the industry, and we look forward to continuing our important work and promoting the diversity of our beloved forestry sector with our Parliamentarians.”
