Tonique dancers twirl to success

Mount Gambier’s Tonique Studio recently competed in the Horsham Calisthenics Competition, with the event returning following a two-year absence due to COVID.

The studio achieved great results at the competition with both the sub junior and junior teams winning their overall sections for the competition.

The weekend started with the studio’s calisthenics and graceful solo students, where entrants performed well and showed they had improved from previous competitions.

The studio was awarded four first places, two third places, three honourable mentions and one highly commended place.

Madison Green and Holly Allison won both their calisthenics and graceful solos, Demi Gabrielli received the development award for the 9 and 10 years graceful solo and Eden Stephenson received the development award for the 8 and 9 years calisthenics solo.

The sub junior competition team was next to take the stage for the weekend, achieving great results and winning the overall sub junior aggregate.

The young team finished with first places for clubs, rods, aesthetics and song and dance, as well as receiving second place for march and third place for freearm.

Coaches Monique Gentile and Tonya Allison were delighted the adjudicators had praised the teams for their technique for such a young age.

“This is something that we work hard on in class to give all the students a great foundation and it is now paying off,” the coaches said.

The junior competition team also recorded outstanding results,, finishing the competition by winning the aggregate for their section by 10 points.

The juniors were awarded first place for the march, freearm and aesthetics sections and second place for clubs, rods and revue.

“These girls have worked extremely hard since their first competition and this hard work has certainly paid off,” the coaches said.

“The studio is now working hard getting ready for its end of year concert that is coming up at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.”
