Tough tussles on junior tennis courts

The Southern Ports Tennis Association junior competition held a minute’s silence at the beginning of matches held at Lucindale on the weekend to pay respects to the late Lucindale police officer Jason Doig who lost his life this week.

Kingston def Lucindale Yellow 50-29points

The sun was shining, and it was a glorious morning for tennis.

Naracoorte Yellow hosted Kingston at Lucindale this week and managed to serve up some terrific matches.

The scores did not always reflect how close the games were.

Katie and Jacob started very strongly for Kingston, getting the 6-1 win in the doubles.

Jack and Hudson were up against it with Missy and Louis up 4-0, with the grass courts keeping them all on their toes, but the boys came back strongly to win 6-4 for Kingston.

Chloe and Sam had some wonderful points with the Orton family duo (Fliss and Jimmy), taking the win 6-1.

The singles matches proved much closer with some tie breaks and plenty of deuce points.

Kingston came away with the win overall.

Terrific sportsmanship was seen all round and plenty of laughs had by all.

Naracoorte Blue def Millicent/Beachport 53-32 games

It was beautiful weather for tennis at Naracoorte.

Teams were mixed to help out those who were short, which resulted in some really close matches.

Matilda Lush held out over Isabel Hall winning 7-5.

Lily Wilkin and Harry Austin had a great hit out, Lily getting it done 6-4.

A big thanks to Winnie and Hillary Schinckel for filling in.

Naracoorte Red def Naracoorte white 40-39 games

It was perfect conditions for juniors on Saturday morning with an extremely close match between Naracoorte Red and White.

Red won by just one game, with plenty of close matches.

Charlie and Alice had a close one with long rallies, but Charlie managed to take the win 6-4.

Eliza, Sidney and Harrison had wins in their singles for Red and Charlie, Beau and Eddie got the job done in their singles for White.

Thank you to Eliza and Archie for playing for Red today.
Lucindale Roos def Lucindale Koalas 50-30 games
With some fantastic rallies and good matches it was a great day out.
