Tradies down tools for good cause

The Construction Industry Ambrose Golf Day sponsored by MG Plasterers and Steeline Roofing hit a hole in one last Friday raising $15,000 for the Mount Gambier Support Group of the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

Special guests former AFL great Wayne Carey and former AFL ruckman Shane Mumford entertained and mingled with the crowd during the “Longest Drive” competition.

The winners of this year’s 152 competitor strong event were Baxter Hire consisting of players Dot Smith, Jamie Agnew, Michael Slotegraaf and Nick Collins.

Steeline Roofing accounts manager Malcolm Lockwood said the event was ‘really crazy busy’ due to the day’s success.

“It was well received by the tradesmen and it was a really happy atmosphere with fellow minded workers having a chat,” he said.

“The staff and volunteers at the Blue Lake Golf Club were brilliant.

“Every hole was sponsored and the catering by The Ok Pie Shop was a big hit.

“The golf greens were amazing, and we received lots of positive comments about them.”

Following the event there were speeches made by MG Plasterers director Matt Patzel and Steeline Roofing owner Tony Steen and Royal Flying Doctors Service Mount Gambier branch president David Douglas.
