Acelebratory lunch will be held on Tuesday at the former Matron’s Apartment at Millicent Hospital to mark the completion of the second stage of its transformation into accommodation for student nurses.
The project is an initiative of the Millicent and Surrounds Health Support Group as it saw the need for comfortable quarters while the visiting student nurses gain additional skills and knowledge in a hospital setting.
Stage one was the overhaul of the five bedrooms and lounge with new fittings, carpets and furniture and the second was the installation of a new kitchen.
The third stage is a makeover of the toilets and bathroom and this will be done at year’s end when the quarters are unoccupied.
All rooms are being re-painted as part of the upgrade.
Numerous individuals, companies, organisations and service clubs have come on board to date to support the MASH Group project with donations of goods, cash and labour.
They will be formally thanked at the celebratory lunch on Tuesday.
Among them will be representatives of the Lions Club of Beachport and Rivoli Bay.
It has donated $3000 in cash to the project while numerous seaside Lions have volunteered their time in the past week to removing the former kitchen, painting and installing the new kitchen
It is anticipated the board of the Limestone Coast Local Health Network will inspect progress on the student nurses accommodation project when it holds its next meeting in Millicent on Monday.
