The umpires’ coach for the new Limestone Coast Football Netball League has resigned.
The new league sources its umpires from the South East Football Umpires League as did its predecessor, the Western Border Football League.
Senior umpire Chris Brooks was SEFUL coach in 2023 and had continued in the role this season.
However, he took the decision to stand down on Wednesday and his resignation was effective immediately.
Brooks officiated in the Mid South Eastern Football League A Grade game between Nangwarry and Mount Burr at Nangwarry on Saturday along with Mal Pasfield and Matt Cockrum.
The SE Voice was at this game but Brooks declined to give an explanation for his actions.
“I plan to umpire in the Mid South Eastern and also the Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League for the rest of the season,” Brooks said.
“I turned to umpiring when I was young after I got hurt.
“My first game was in 1985 and it was a B Grade game between Port MacDonnell and Nangwarry at the Bay.”
Brooks is the third experienced umpire to join the MSEFL panel in 2024.
Pasfield has recently moved to Millicent from interstate while the other is Independent MacKillop MP Nick McBride.
LCFNL chairman Kurt Slaven was approached for comment and he said the leadership of the SEFUL was a matter for that organisation.
Slaven said he had read the letter of resignation submitted by Brooks.
He said the LCFNL obtains its umpires from the SEFUL.
In other LCFNL news, applications for the position of league secretary closed on Friday.
Meanwhile, Millicent netball identity Hayley Dunn has been appointed as the 10th member of the board of the LCFNL.
She is a multiple premiership player with the Saints and works in senior management with the Kimberly-Clark Australia Millicent Mill.
