United hits back at inter club rival

Concordes United evened the ledger against their sister team Concordes White this weekend, in a match which they led from start to finish winning 17 to 7.

White batted first and despite a lead off runner they could not score.

United have lacked consistency with the bat so far this season, but in the first innings they were absolutely white hot, going on a tear which saw them notch an incredible 10 safe hits in one innings including 2 each to Sarah Thomson, Codie Jackway and Montana Millard.

White were powerless to stop the onslaught and United were off to a flier, leading 10 nil after the first innings.

Despite often being a slow starting and strong finishing side, much to their coaches chagrin, White left themselves way too much to do against a team jam packed full of batting.

Even though they scored 5 runs of their own in the 3rd it was only enough to delay the inevitable as United proved too good on the day, winning by the initial 10 run margin.

Stand outs for United were Thomson, Codie Jackway and Hannah Taylor with 3 safe hits each, but the key to success for United was the spread of batting throughout their entire lineup.

Quiet achiever Leonie McCallum had yet another terrific game both with bat and ball for United, as did Bec Von Duve who had two beautiful hits and was flawless in the field.

Hannah Taylor was a blocking machine behind the plate for United, flashing the leather and using all the mind games in the book to keep the White base runners on their toes.

With 5 players out this week, White called on the services of super subs Emily Sutherland and Bek Millowick, and they did not disappoint, both having safe hits to centerfield.

Best for the bat for White were the old folk in Jo Hopgood and Sam Brown, both with 2 hits.

Alli Kreplins battled hard all day on the mound for White, pitching with grit and some entertaining sledging despite the scoreline.

Brown showed off her sharp glove work behind the plate for White and hit a huge 2 RBI double in another solid performance.

Warriors White 16 defeated Wanderers 9 in another high scoring game.

It all came down to the last innings where Warriors White broke Wanderers’ hearts by invoking the 10 run rule and recording the victory.

Wanderers went into the game in second position on the ladder, and White’s had their tails up after a well deserved victory over their sister side last week.

White scored two in the first with Sarah Polderman zinging a single then speeding around the bases and RBI machine Clare Chaplin was scored on a fielder’s choice with the infield fielding a bit too deep for Leyna Bruggemann.

Chaplin was four of the 16 White runs for the day, racking up two hits, as did Polderman.

Wanderers young gun Charli Kaigg continues to impress behind the plate, picking up balls in the dirt with seasoned conviction and recording two safe hits.

Similarly, Jo Hart had two safe hits after having stretched out her hamstrings while fielding at first with a few curly Wanderers throws coming her way.

Tracey Anderson has been a quiet achiever for Wanderers, particularly in terms of her RBI contributions, where she would have to be up there for league honours in this category.

She added another two to her tally with a safe hit up the middle and Fiona Finch ran out a single to saintly Jas Disselbach showing her stuff at second base.

Finch was earlier gunned down at the plate, trying to take advantage of an uncharacteristic wild throw from Polderman but rookie right fielder Bruggemann was actually backing up and managed to throw the ball straight for once in her life.

Disselbach had clearly been paying attention at training, moving in all the right directions and bringing a smile to the coaches’ faces.

Taylor Wilsmore backed up after plate umpiring the earlier game by taking on catching duties, getting some unlucky bad bounces in the dirt.

She was freed up when switched to the outfield, hitting a laser to left.

Undoubtedly the player of the game was Erin ‘The Flash’ Chaplin.

She struck out four hitters after hitting two in the first innings and legged out an important single to shortstop in the last inning to keep White’s chances alive.

She remarked that her legs had never felt as fast after pulling up halfway to the home run fence.

Whites will be looking to keep their winning streak alive as they play a rescheduled game against Demons next weekend at 1pm.
