Vaccine clinic ‘talk of town’

A dedicated COVID vaccination clinic will be established in Millicent if the rumours are correct.

The SE Voice understands the Federal Government is in negotiations with the owners of vacant commercial premises to lease their building for this purpose.

At present, COVID vaccinations are provided at the Millicent Hospital and the Medical Clinic Millicent.

There are 9916 persons aged over 15 in Wattle Range Council with 65.6% having their first COVID jab and 45.3% being fully vaccinated.

The Limestone Coast Local Health Network had been negotiating with Wattle Range Council to use its former Millicent Italian Social Club as the base for the COVID vaccination clinic.

To this end, council had spent $4000 on building modifications at the Short Street premises and this is not recoverable.

However, council chief executive Ben Gower told a mid-year council meeting in Millicent the health network had changed its mind about this venue.

A SA Health spokesperson said there were no plans by the State Government for such a COVID clinic in Millicent but she was aware of the Federal Government assessing options across the nation.
