Vanners steer funds to suicide prevention

The Majestic Vanners Australia Inc South Australian Chapter drove the SA State Van Titles and SA Van-In #03 to Mount Gambier earlier this month.

The Valley Lakes area was filled with spectators to view the vans and vehicles on display.

Ryan Oldman from Surrey Downs took out the gold with his 1979 HZ Holden Sandman while Mount Gambier’s Peter Zukauskas drove home second place in his 1960 FB Holden Sandman.

Co-organiser Ali Slotegraaf said while the quantity of van entries was down from last year the quality of the SA State Title participants had improved.

“This was the first time the Van-In had been combined with the SA State Titles.

“Last year the Van-In was in Port Hughes so mainly South Australians attended because it is too far for the Victorians to travel,” she said.

“We have so many of the Victorian members that wanted to come over, so we decided to put together a show and shine for them.”

Mrs Slotegraaf said the weekend was a roaring success for the club.

“We had a very successful dinner and charity auction on Saturday night raising about $3500 for our two causes; the Mount Gambier and District Suicide Prevention Network and the Naracoorte and Districts Suicide Prevention Network,” she said.

“All the money made from the weekend including the entry fee and raffle tickets sold on Sunday will be split between the two causes.

“I would like to thank organisers Pier Millard, Annie Cutting and Leith (Bear) Cutting because this weekend would not be possible without them.”
