Well-being project boost

Three community groups have received a funding boost towards COVID-19 recovery and well-being projects The Stand Like Stone Foundation has awarded grants to three local community organisations thanks to the generosity of the Grant District Council in providing $10,000 to support the recovery, wellbeing and resilience of people in their council area during the global COVID19 pandemic.

The Port MacDonnell and District Men’s Shed received a grant to purchase a new television for its meeting rooms, helping reduce social isolation for some of their older members by giving them a reason to spend time with other like-minded people.

Women in Business and Regional Development received a grant to run a well-being and resilience event in the council area next year, focussed on mental health support for women in agriculture during isolating times.

Foodbank (SA) Limestone Coast also received a grant to implement its COVIDSafe program.

With an increased demand on services from relief agencies and schools, the grant enables the organisation to purchase a hand sanitising station for volunteers, agencies and clients, as well as two additional warehouse trolleys to help with increased orders.

Mayor Richard Sage said he was pleased a new suite of projects were being undertaken in the district that connected and supported communities, which was the intent of council’s ongoing DCG Care Package established early 2020 in response to the global pandemic.

“In partnering with Stand Like Stone we have been able to reach out to a broader audience and become involved in new initiatives that may not be within our scope at council,” he said.

“On behalf of council I extend our appreciation to Anne and her team for a job well done with many in the community benefiting from the program.”

Stand Like Stone chief executive Anne Kerr said the foundation was delighted to partner with council and thanked them not only for the donation, but also for asking Stand Like Stone to manage the process.

“As the region’s only community foundation, our mission is to promote investment in the Limestone Coast for lasting impact and we know the grants to these community groups will deliver a positive impact,” she said.

“In addition to the grants a further $2400 will be used to purchase $50 food vouchers from independent supermarkets to be distributed to schools in the council area.”
