Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway has endured another night of no on-track action due to Mother Nature playing the leading role on Saturday night.
After the opening night was originally set for November 26, the rain gods opened up and dumped a downpour on the venue which cause the club to re-schedule the meeting to December 10.
Going by all weather reports, the forecast was looking good with a temperature around the mid-20s expected to get racing underway under sunny skies and with some sunshine for most of the week leading up to the event this was geared up to be the case.
As some 80 odd cars rolled in the venue come Saturday morning it was a perfect day to get the South Australian Sprintcar title and the Ti Bills round 2 wingless series under way.
As all cars were scrutinised and passed their main checks, things were all set go for the opening night, but at around the 4pm mark Mother Nature decide not to play nice and gave the venue a sprinkle of the wet stuff for around about 40 minutes, caused the track to be slippery.
It was all hands-on deck after the rain cleared with the track crew trying desperately to get the surface back up to racing standards and allow the meeting to go ahead.
After the tractors and rollers tried in vain to push the water off, they called upon about 20 or so wingless sprints to hit the track and see if they could get the circuit in some sort of shape to go racing, but it was not to be.
Even the avid race fans sitting up on the hill had their fingers and toes crossed to see some action, but despite every effort made by the club to get it up and running in a monstrous effort, the track was deemed too wet for racing.
Borderline Speedway will make every effort to re-schedule the event from Saturday, but in the meantime will now focus on December 28 for a round of the Sprintcar Speedweek series and boy is it looking to be a big one with some big names already featuring on the nomination list.
