Women tickled pink with Breast Cancer Day fundraising round

Asea of pink could be seen on the Attamurra course when 39 ladies donned pink attire to participate in the annual Breast Cancer Day fundraiser.

A pink ball competition in the form of a stableford saw teams of three where each player uses a pink ball for six holes with that score automatically added to the better score of the other two players.

The winners for the day were mother and daughter combination, Bev and Kerry Pedlar together with the in form Helen Heaver led the way with a top score of 80 points.

Helen McIntyre, Kate McCormick and Denise Harvey accepted the runner up prize with 77 points while Libby Furner, Heather Teakle and Jess Parsons were one point further back with 76.

Hope Bliss, Karen Forster and Maxine McGregor led the way of the 3 teams of ball run down winners with 74 points, followed by Mary Kentish, Jane Lamont and Betty McKechnie with 73 on a countback from Sue Coulter, Lorraine Bruhn and Jennette Braun.

Libby Altschwager was the most accurate on the downhill 8th hole claiming 3 balls for her shot while winners for the long drive second shot in A, B and C grades were Kerry Pedlar, Di O’Donnell and Altschwager respectively.

Representatives from the local Breast Cancer Support Group accepted a cheque for $520 from captain, Faye Mainwaring with the funds raised going towards Hand Bags which include vouchers from local businesses supporting ladies undergoing cancer treatment and assisting families throughout the trying times.

Last Friday, a team of 11 Mount Gambier ladies travelled to Naracoorte and played for the Peweena Shield which is a handicap match play competition between the two clubs played twice a year.

This event has been played for over 80 years.

Mount Gambier won the first round at Attamurra in June and retained the shield after the return match with scores of Mount Gambier – 8 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw.

Windy conditions made a par round more challenging than usual but Jess Parsons in her first year of competition has again produced another excellent round of 2 up when sixteen ladies played a par round on Saturday.

With three wipes and three pars on the front nine, Parsons commenced the back nine square with the card and finished strongly parring the difficult par four 13th and 18th holes.

Lyndal McInerney started well on the back nine and was 3 up at the halfway mark, found trouble on the front nine but still finished square to take the runner up prize.

Ball run down winners were Kerry Pedlar 1 down, Di O’Donnell, Vicki Clark and Sharran Waters all 4 down.

Bev Pedlar won the pro shot on the 8th hole while McInerney was nearest the pin on the 16th hole.
