Women’s football zone squad announced

The 2022 South East Zone women’s squad to play at the South Australian Women’s Country Championships in July has been announced.

Each zone competing in the competition will nominate a 24-player squad and the South East team will once again be coached by Mundulla’s Michael Hunt.

Hunt will be joined by assistant coaches Simon Radley and Fiona Young from South and North Gambier respectively.

After holding the silverware up in the recent win, Kybybolite’s co-captains Dellie Brown and Susannah Maber will play big parts in the squad alongside premiership teammates Annabel Mould, Ella Jones, Georgia Gill and Emily Cattuzzo.

Following a near-perfect season, South Gambier has also got a number of players in the team including Mel Bateman, Kendell Saffin, Alice Tentye Lauren and Chelsea Frost.

League Best and fairest Caroline McGrath will be a valuable asset alongside Penola team mates Shandee Balshaw and Angela Broad.

Mundulla’s Casey McElroy, Zoe Hawker, Kellsie Turner and Kellsey Hingle will be bring plenty of strength and run to the setup.

Kalangadoo have two players named in Emmason IIsley and Taysha Marshall and after not having a great season they will look gain lots of experience.

North Gambier’s captain Chloe Perryman will also form part of the formidable zone team with her sheer guts and Millicent’s Laura Chester will get the opportunity to learn from some of the best.

Kongorong’s Under 16 and open women’s best and fairest Jade Longbottom will greatly benefit after having a stand-out season in the Hawks’ nest while teammate Kate Wright will provide some extra speed when needed.

The squad will have its first training on Sunday, May 29 from 10am at Penola, while the championships will be held at Whyalla on the weekend of July 16 and 17.
