The 2022 Limestone Coast Multicultural Soccer Carnival held in Naracoorte on Saturday proved a great success.
A record 27 teams from throughout the Limestone Coast participated in the 7-aside, 1/2 field round robin competitions.
More than 60 games were played across six pitches during the day and young soccer enthusiasts also enjoyed a free MiniRoos clinic led by Football South Australia.
Multicultural tasting plates were devoured at lunchtime and the Teys Australia barbecue sold out of steak sandwiches early in the afternoon.
The fourth successive carnival – celebrating a diverse and harmonious Australia by bringing together people from different cultural backgrounds from around the Limestone Coast – was held with support of a network of event partners.
Event partners for the 2022 carnival were the Australian Migrant Resource Centre, Naracoorte Lucindale Council, Naracoorte United Soccer Club, Teys Australia, the Limestone Coast Multicultural Network, Football South Australia, STTARS (Survivors of Torture and Trauma Assistance and Rehabilitation Service), Ottoson Partners Real Estate, MiniJumbuk and Naracoorte Freight Centre.
Federal Government funding was also received for this year’s event from Sport Australia’s Regional Sport Events Fund.
Saturday’s carnival captured the attention of not only the region but also the nation, with a production company from NSW travelling to film the event for the Australian Department of Home Affairs and the Australian Sports Commission.
