Young athletes continue winning run

Tenison Woods College is experiencing a year of major sporting success winning three major interschool competitions and its annual sporting exchange.

Each year students from the South East and surrounding districts compete in a wide range of School Sport SA Carnivals against other schools.

Success at these events allow the schools to advance to the next stages of the competition, usually at a state level.

In 2023, with the sporting calendar back to full strength, student participation in the South East has reached a new high.

Term 1 saw a successful Interschool Swimming Carnival held at the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre for the first time.

It was at this event that Tenison Woods College students demonstrated their strength in the pool, winning the overall shield, along with many of the age champion divisions.

Tenison has proudly held a strong winning streak at this event since 2015.

Later in Term 1, students from the South East travelled to Millicent High School for the Interschool Athletics Carnival.

After some impressive displays of athleticism at the track and field events, Tenison Woods College also took home the win for its outstanding performance at the event.

Tenison Woods College middle/senior school sports Coordinator Brooke Hicks said students have excelled across all sporting events this year.

“I am beyond proud; of not only the effort they have shown, but the sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie,” she said.

“All students have represented the college with pride.”

In May, the local schools met once again at Millicent High School, this time for the Interschool Cross Country competition.

Students put on another great athletic performance and Tenison Woods College ended its 26-year drought by taking home top honours at the event.

“To think that we have not won the Interschool Cross Country since 1997, that is a feat in itself, but to win all three carnivals has been outstanding,” Mrs Hicks said.

Tenison Woods College’s winning streak did not end there, with the staff and students traveling to Adelaide for their annual exchange with Cardijn College.

It was at the exchange the students dominated the competition, winning eight of the 11 events.

“The success is so well deserved, and a reflection on the sporting programs offered at our college,” Mrs Hick said.

“We thank the students for the continued effort and their families for supporting their sporting commitments.”
