Young athletes sprint ahead

Another successful night of Little Athletics was held at Mount Gambier High School in very warm conditions.

The Under 7 girls and boys participated in the discus, vortex, 50 metre sprint and 500 metre run.

In the discus Hadley McEachern topped off her night with a personal best throw of 6.69 metre.

Sophie Praolini also picked up a personal best with a 4.58 metre throw which was fantastic to see.

Layla Gamble continues to improve on the track each week with a solid run in the 50m sprint.

Gabriella Albanese and Polly McKenzie were involved in a very close race finish just behind Layla who currently holds the centre record in this event.

Layla and Gabriella also finished well in the 500 metre track event, both girls picking up personal bests on the night in this event.

In the Under 7 boys Elliott Bickley, Harrison Gordon, Casey Weedon and Harlee Holmes all picked up personal best throws in the discus.

Elliott also took out the 50 metre sprint in a very quick time of 9.31 seconds, edging closer to the centre record held since 2014.

One of our larger age groups in the Under 9 girls had a close contest over in the long jump.

Chloe Bickley took the honours on Friday night just ahead of Ellie Perry.

Ellie also received a personal best in the 400 metre track race finishing just behind Chloe by two seconds.
