Young gun earns place at Under 19 cricket national championships

Former local cricketer Hamish Case has been selected to represent South Australia at the under 19 national championships in December.

Case, 18, who began his cricket career at Yahl and West Gambier in the Mount Gambier and Districts Cricket Association now plays his cricket in Adelaide for Tea Tree Gully in the SACA Premier League.

At the beginning of the month Case’s selection in the under 19 South Australian squad to play at the national championships was confirmed.

He will travel to compete against the best young cricketers in the nation from November 30 with the tournament continuing until December 7.

Case has already proved his ability on a national stage competing at the under 19 national championships last year when he won the runner up for the Brian Taber Medal as the MVP for the competition.

As a bottom aged player Case scored the 12th most runs for the tournament with an average of 37 with the bat.

With the experience gained from the last year’s edition of the national championships, Case enters this year’s competition with added confidence.

Despite being named runner up MVP there are still areas for Case to go further, he will be hopeful his side can go deeper into the tournament, and there will be hopes he can secure a place in the team of the tournament after missing out last year despite an excellent week of performances.

Having tasted success and being acknowledged for his contributions on a national level, Case is poised to build on his achievements and make a significant impact for South Australia during the upcoming Championships.

Case and the South Australian side will play a match each day of the championships with finals following the rounds.

And Case will no doubt be an important player for the state side, as he was incredibly important for the team to win all but two of its matches at last year’s tournament.

Case has been playing well in recent times, at the beginning of October he knocked a 60 off 51 balls against Port Adelaide in the West End T20 Cup.

The national championships will be held in Albury, New South Wales and streamed online.
