Young star shines on stage

MJ Dance Studio dancer Violet Davis has been crowned the Petite Champion at the Follow Your Dreams dance competition.

The national competition was held at the Adelaide Convention Centre and Violet caught the eyes of judges with her lyrical routine ‘A Million Dreams.’

Violet’s mother Amanda Davis was extremely proud of her daughter and said Violet was both excited and shocked when she won the title.

“I think when she won, she was like ‘oh my goodness, I did it’, she tried so hard and worked so hard,” Ms Davis said.

Violet had lots of lessons in the lead-up to the competition and Ms Davis said her daughter practiced every single day, including when they were on holiday in Beachport.

“We are really proud of her,” she said.

“She likes doing competitions and making friends, she likes the social side a lot, but she is also quite competitive, so she likes to learn new things and get them right as well.

“I really love watching her dance, I love watching her compete, she loves it, we like doing it together.”

Ms Davis said the major achievement was a team effort from MJ Dance Studio’s director Maria Slape and her solo teacher Christina Jenkin.

“Maria is really good, really supportive, Violet loves her and Chrissie,” Ms Davis said.

“It is definitely a team sport.”

Ms Slape said she was very excited when Violet won the Petite Champion title and said she was a talented, determined and driven young dancer.

“She is such a hard-working little girl and she had really set it out as an aim to see if she could achieve that, so it is lovely when they work hard and get what they have worked hard for,” she said.

“Mum and dad are very supportive as well, they do a lot for her.

“To get to that level it is quite a big commitment from the whole family.

“I am looking forward to this year with her and she has different goals this year so hopefully she can achieve them as well.”

The talented eight-year-old has danced since she was two and a half years old and she is passionate about dancing, with ambitions for a future career in the sport.

“She has started looking at a bit of musical theatre, she has started singing,” Ms Davis said.

“But she also really likes contemporary and there is actually a lot of work in contemporary companies as well.

“She is still little, but also cruise ships, if you can go into musical theatre and can sing, that is a really good thing to do as well.”
