Kaleb Sims started speedway karting in Tasmania back in 2015-16 and arrives at Borderline as national champion.
In Juniors Sims’ best result was fourth in the 2015-16 state title but he continued to improve and by the end of 2016 had made his first trip to the mainland to compete in the Kids Royal at Avalon.
The race proved to be a huge learning curve, making the final and then onto the Victorian title at Mildura.
In 2016-17 he improved to finish second in the Tasmanian title and picked up fourth in the juniors and his first attempt at an Australian title.
Two summers later Sims moved into the Junior Standards as well as running Juniors.
The move paid off when he travelled again to Avalon and managed to pick up the Victorian number one in the Juniors Standards on his first attempt.
Being a big year of travelling Sims made the trek to Darwin for the for the NT title where he secured third in the Junior Standards and managed to take home NT1 in the Juniors.
One week later he was back in action in the Australian title landing A2 in the Juniors.
But things came together in 2019/20 at his home state title locking in the Junior win.
Ever keen to race as soon as he could, Sims moved to Seniors running both modifieds and 125s at home.
He won his first three features in the modified and went to the Australian title at Tamworth in 2020-21 with confidence.
The event was more about experience as Sims was only 17, but things went well qualifying his Modified on outside pole and coming home in third for a great result.
In the Standard he only managed to qualify 10th but it only took him three laps to hit the front, which was where he remained until the end some 30-plus minutes later to claim his first Australia title.
Sims has only managed to be able to run his #1 once as the Standards do not run in Tassie and cannot wait to get to Mount Gambier to race the best in Australia again.
This season Sims has had the opportunity to run Wingless Sprints as well still competing in karts quite often doing double duties on some nights.
