Three South East cricketers will pad up for the experience of a lifetime this Sunday where they will get the chance to play at one of the most loved cricket grounds in the world.

Rewarded for sparkling performances at the recent 2021/22 SACA Senior Country Cup, North Sportsman’s Nick McInerney, West Gambier’s Connor Prior and East Gambier’s Alex Hentschke will represent the SA Country Outbacks team at the famous Adelaide Oval.

The representative team returns to action after almost two seasons off due to COVID-19 and hopes to rediscover the winning feeling against an all Indigenous XI in an exciting T20 contest for so many reasons.

McInerney captained the South East senior side to the Grand Final and cannot wait to play on the highly-respected Adelaide Oval drop-in pitch.

“It is really exciting,” he said.

“For country cricketers it will be a once in a lifetime experience to play at Adelaide Oval, so hopefully we can have a good game because it will just be great.”

The contest is a tremendous opportunity for the Limestone Coast stars to play on the same turf Don Bradman scored 299* in 1932 or Shane Warne bowled Australia to a miracle win over England in 2006.

It will also be a big moment for South Australian cricket after a long hiatus for the prestigious Outbacks team.

Outbacks coach Paul Pasculli said it will be special to see the team back in action, especially at the world-renowned venue In January 2014

“It has been 13 months since we last played which is huge because a lot of players aspire to play for the Outbacks,” he said.

“But it was not too hard picking a team because the carrot of playing at the Adelaide Oval was too big.

“In my time this will be the first Outbacks v Indigenous XI game and hopefully we can make it an annual thing.”

Pasculli said the South East stars put forward undeniable cases to be picked for the big game.

“Nick and Alex have been with us before and we just felt we needed some experience in the team,” he said.

“They both had good, consistent carnivals, while Connor is a young fella who had a solid week without any massive scores, but someone we could look to for the future.

“Its an opportunity for them to shine and hopefully they can be part of our plans in national championships down the track.”

The T20 contest will begin around 3.30pm this Sunday afternoon and will be streamed on Frogbox.
