An impromptu acoustic music concert was recently held at Penola’s Rymill Hall, which delighted people with a variety of acoustic music.

The event was organised by the Penola Coonawarra Acoustic Music Gathering Committee and gave people a taste of the gathering, which was cancelled this year due to COVID.

Committee member Anne Miller said the concert was a great night and attracted close to 70 people, including locals and some from interstate.

“It went really well,” Ms Miller said.

“The feedback we got was everybody had the best time and had a great deal of fun and enjoyed it.”

A couple of favourites from the gathering last year took to the stage, including Celtic Folk band Shamrock and trio group The River Pearlers.

Lots of people, including Tamworth-bound local singer-songwriter Anne Fraser, performed on the open mics.

“We had some really wonderful people who have just got beautiful voices,” Ms Miller said.

Ms Miller said the concert made her “beyond excited” for the gathering to return next year, which will be a major event for the region.

Schools and students are encouraged to register for the free Bendigo Bank Youth Mentoring Program, affiliated with the PC Acoustic Gathering, which will be held during the second school term from May 16 to 19 this year.

Tutor and accomplished singer-songwriter Nancy Bates will visit schools to perform group and one-on-one tutoring, followed by a ‘Stars of the Future’ concert in Rymill Hall on Friday, May 20.
